  • Notoginseng (San Qi)

    Notoginseng (San Qi)

Notoginseng (also known as panax notoginseng or pseudoginseng) can be found eastern Asia and is in the same family as the more well-known ginseng.

Notoginseng is famous in China for its blood circulation properties and cardiovascular[1] benefits.  It is considered to be a blood regulator in traditional Chinese medicine.  Very often found in herbal dit da jow and trauma formulas, notoginseng is used to stop bleeding, reduce swelling and alleviate pain[2].  It is an herb that is taken both internally and applied externally for many bleeding disorders.  For a topical usage example, notoginseng is the largest ingredient in Yunnan Bai Yao, a famous hemostatic proprietary herbal remedy that was notably carried by the Viet Cong to deal with wounds during the Vietnam war[3].

As an interesting note, a study found that when san qi is taken internally, athletes had a measurable increase in physical endurance[4].  (Eating Battle Balm® will most likely get you sick due to some of the non-edible ingredients.  We highly highly recommend that you do not eat our products.)

Battle Balm® contains High Quality Cultivated San Qi as one of its 20 key ingredients.  It's just one of the hand selected herbs used to stop bleeding, reduce swelling, and alleviate pain due to trauma.  This herbal ingredient is part of the synergistic blend of Battle Balm® to help you defeat your pain and get back to training hard again!
